this works for the project "openSUSE admin" where tickets are also automatically created. However it seems like for other projects it does not work, e.g. I tried to update https://progress.opensuse.org/issues/70384 by replying to an email about the ticket from redmine@opensuse.org . I have not received any error reply by email yet but there is also no update visible in the ticket.

@okurz, please do testing for other project.
Thank you,

I did but so far without success. Replied to an email about a ticket update to https://progress.opensuse.org/issues/66688 but this showed no effect.

Hi there - and a Happy and Healthy 2022!
I'm currently closing old tickets which did not see much change.
If the main concern still exists and should be handled, please re-open by just replying to this Email.
Thanks in advance,
Lars
