Description
Observation¶
openQA test in scenario sle-15-Installer-DVD-ppc64le-extra_tests_in_textmode@ppc64le fails in
kdump_and_crash
Reproducible¶
Fails since (at least) Build 324.2
Expected result¶
Last good: SLE 12 SP3 where we had crash in main SLES
Acceptance criteria¶
- AC1: We have a working test for crash in SLE15 as well as SLE12
Tasks¶
- Enable dev-tools in test module "kdump_and_crash" using or move that test module to its own scenario where we have dev-tools enabled
- Enable channel SLE-15-Module-Basesystem-POOL-ppc64le-Media3 (See bsc#1073621)
Further details¶
- Related bug: https://bugzilla.suse.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1073621
- Always latest result in this scenario: latest
- How to enable module through console:
use registration;
…
add_suseconnect_product('sle-module-development-tools');

Had a failed testrun http://f146.suse.de/tests/1809. Still investigating.

zypper_ref fails, installing kernel-debug fails. If they are commented out the last $crash_cmd at line 45 in tests/console/kdump_and_crash.pm will fail. However for the issue in this ticket it can be seen as resolved. Verification run: http://f146.suse.de/tests/1812

Blocked when testing in a previous build where zypper ref
is not working, only latest is stored for this repo SLE-15-Product-SLES-POOL-x86_64-Build400.4-Media1 in ftp://openqa.suse.de/ preventing further verification due to latest build is incomplete or to be ignored.

In feedback by:
- PR to be able to find development packages: https://github.com/os-autoinst/os-autoinst-distri-opensuse/pull/4160
- PR to try to fix that recently synchronized repos 2&3 are wrongly pointing to Medium 1: https://gitlab.suse.de/openqa/scripts/merge_requests/176 Second PR is for fixing an error that is only visible after code introduced in first PR is there (we know this one due to toolchain has already included this development module and therefore we only see now the second error).

PR updated with comments in the review. After the package is installed they system is running out of RAM memory (I believe when is doing the kdump) killing process and not able to boot properly. I was increasing QUEMURAM parameter but no effect yet). It will require further investigation and when this PR is merged we can also open the bug for that.

Blocking ticked by these two issues seen in the last build:
- After all packages are installed, kdump does not store the dumps: https://bugzilla.suse.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1075937
- Kdump runs but there is perhaps some systemd issue (seen on my local tests in previous comments when I tried to solve it increasing RAM): https://bugzilla.suse.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1075945

Also, the most recent job in the original scenario is https://openqa.suse.de/tests/1431575 and failing to type "echo" correctly so different thing. But focus on returning early with soft-fail now.
