Might need to use the vPro backend to test real hardware

Yifan, as a first step we could use the Laptop hardware profile only as a start. What do you think?

Adding a test suit like this?

Hi Marita,

Yep, we could try. As mentioned by Richard, vPro could be a good way to go with.
While I am not sure if we have a supported hardware atm. We need to check those
existed laptop's labels. At the same time, we'll need to check about how openQA
infrastructure could get it well handled.

I will come back later if something new :-)

As for the "first step", I think we are talking about #5 Chingkai mentioned? In that case, I totally agree :-)

Yes, #5 looks very good. can you add it and check if it works?

I have test this on my local server,

openQA settings:

Machines:
HDDSIZEGB=20
LAPTOP=1
QEMUCPU=qemu64
WORKER_CLASS=qemu_x86_64

Test suites:
suite name:gnome

DESKTOP=gnome

validation:
http://147.2.212.239/tests/943

If everyone feels ok then I will add it to Job groups of o.s.d:
SLE Desktop 12 SP3 -> Acceptance: SLE 12 SP3 2.Desktop

I tried to check if the patterns of laptop are installed in the Laptop hardware profile, and the answer is No:

The rpm -qa output section in http://147.2.212.239/tests/943/file/textinfo-info.txt:
......
patterns-sle-gnome-basic-12-5.8.x86_64
patterns-sled-32bit-12-52.1.x86_64
patterns-sled-Minimal-12-52.1.x86_64
patterns-sled-Minimal-32bit-12-52.1.x86_64
patterns-sled-apparmor-12-52.1.x86_64
patterns-sled-apparmor-32bit-12-52.1.x86_64
patterns-sled-desktop-base-12-52.1.x86_64
patterns-sled-desktop-base-32bit-12-52.1.x86_64
patterns-sled-desktop-gnome-12-52.1.x86_64
patterns-sled-desktop-gnome-32bit-12-52.1.x86_64
patterns-sled-documentation-12-52.1.x86_64
patterns-sled-documentation-32bit-12-52.1.x86_64
patterns-sled-x11-12-52.1.x86_64
patterns-sled-x11-32bit-12-52.1.x86_64
......

it doesn't include:
patterns-sled-desktop-gnome-laptop
patterns-sled-laptop

hm, ok. So does that mean something is missing in the product?

The laptop patterns will be installed on a real laptop,
it is more like a issue of openQA's Laptop hardware profile.

+1 Good idea, but I think the Laptop hardware profile needs fixing in order to work properly

[21 Feb 2018 16:55:49] okurz: the laptop tests are broken as I suspected

Hi @qkzhu could you check these? Do you plan to work on the laptop profiles used by openQA tests? I think on a ticket with "high" priority we should make sure there is a more timely update. Can you handle it or should someone else take over?

I will add a new testsuite and a new machine type for SLED15 on laptop profile test

testsuite: gnome_sled
DESKTOP=gnome
SCC_REGCODE=XXX
SLE_PRODUCT=sled
TOGGLEHOME=1

machine type: laptop_64bit-virtio-vga
LAPTOP=1
HDDSIZEGB=20
QEMUCPU=qemu64
QEMUVGA=virtio
VIRTIO_CONSOLE=1
WORKER_CLASS=qemu_x86_64

Please don't leak regcodes.

Good plan to add this scenario.
