Motivation

#162035 was originally covering changes to the needle editor, and questions about existing coverage of the needle editor came up.

Acceptance criteria

  • AC1: Test coverage of needle editor was discussed and increased

Suggestions

  • Review the current state of tests for the needle editor, also with #162035 in mind
  • Consider a NEEDLES_DIR being a different repo/remote entirely (e.g. a pull request) (although this is not strictly required it would be good to ensure we could also support it)
  • Read #56789 again
