observation¶
This job (https://openqa.suse.de/tests/668033/file/autoinst-log.txt) fails because the logfile parameter is not available in the installed version of QEMU on the worker.
problem¶
Upgrading the QEMU version on the worker will fix this. But for this we would need to update e.g. malbec.arch from SLES 12 SP1 to a more recent version which no one did, maybe for good reasons.
workaround¶
The virtio-console is optional in os-autoinst and is only enabled if the job states 'VIRTIO_CONSOLE=1'. As a workaround disable this setting.

that should be in "openQA tests - infrastructure". The worker hostname is malbec.arch and it runs SLE 12 SP1 which is not super old. Currently, it is not even clear who wants to be the admin of this machine. Best guess is rbrown and mgriessmeier as second, coolo as third if you ask him really nicely. I am afraid you have to handle this on your own, either make it work or workaround somehow with old version (preferred) or check new qemu is available on SP2 and make someone update that worker host.

For the time being I will just wait for someone to do it, eventually it will have to be done, but I may never have to do the workaround, which will probably be effort saved for both of us. I didn't set the priority to immediate, I just want to record it and make sure people are aware there is a desire for it.

removing VIRTIO_CONSOLE=1 from machine ppc64le, tests are failing with Invalid parameter 'logfile'
add it into test directly when needed

It appears that QEMU has been updated to 2.8.x on PPC64LE workers so I have re-enabled VIRTIO_CONSOLE on the machine.
