Description

Dear openSUSE infra team,

Since the download page outage on 2021.06.15 I have been experiencing
the following issues when downloading an iso file from get.opensuse.org.

  1. If I want to download for example the latest offline LEAP image (15.3) from get.opensuse.org and directly click the the download button (I do not pick a mirror) the site redirects the user to mirrors that are seemingly not containing the iso file, for example:

http://ftp.vectranet.pl/opensuse/distribution/leap/15.3/iso/openSUSE-Leap-15.3-DVD-x86_64.iso
https://www.mirrorservice.org/sites/download.opensuse.org/distribution/leap/15.3/iso/openSUSE-Leap-15.3-DVD-x86_64-Current.iso

This is very interesting because both servers have the image, but under
another name:

http://ftp.vectranet.pl/opensuse/distribution/leap/15.3/iso/openSUSE-Leap-15.3-DVD-x86_64-Media.iso
https://www.mirrorservice.org/sites/download.opensuse.org/distribution/leap/15.3/iso/openSUSE-Leap-15.3-DVD-x86_64-Media.iso

Also I don't understand why mirrorbrain redirects downloads from Hungary
to foreign servers when we have two up to date servers locally (LEAP).

If I want to download an iso from the LEAP LIVE section (GNOME LiveCD
etc.) the URLs are fine, but the "pick mirror" option still starts the
automatic download and does not redirect users to the mirror list.

  1. It wouldn't be a big deal because there is the "pick mirror" option in the drop-down menu - as I saw URLs are also OK in the generated mirror list too - , but it randomly does not work and instead of redirecting the user to the mirror list to choose one manually, it automatically starts the download from wrong URLs and/or from distant mirrors.

The "pick mirror" issue is present in both downloads (LEAP, Tumbleweed)
, the bad URL problem affects only the LEAP section exclude the LIVE
images part - as far as I see.

That's all for now. :)

Cheers,

Peter

The download problem should be fixed now - could you confirm?
Whole problem is that new versions are released and some mirrors have it and other - don't.
The mirrors in Hungary have new version, and usually new version will be shown at download.opensuse.org when enough mirrors get it. But this process got stuck somewhere, this will be troubleshooted next week I guess.
Regarding 'Pick mirror' button - Does download start if you just paste url https://download.opensuse.org/distribution/leap/15.3/appliances/iso/openSUSE-Leap-15.3-GNOME-Live-x86_64-Media.iso?mirrorlist ?
If not - does the problem happen in some other browser as well?

Partial confirmation.

TW download links, regions, "pick mirror" and mirrorbrain links are OK.

But LEAP is still a mess. :(

The mirrorbrain update process got stuck and I can only see these mirrors:

The downloads by AS not working properly because of this, but "pick
mirror" option seems to work now (to tell the truth it takes some time
because sometimes it is jumping between the options of auto download and
redirection to mirror list so I will give a feedback on it later on) .

The LEAP LIVE section is now also affected by the above mentioned issue.

So metalink shows only those mirrors that have the files, so 'Download' links should work now.
So is your current concern that there are too few mirrors shown? Or I don't fully understand what means "downloads by AS not working properly".

Actually now I also suspect that mirrors were updated by mistake, they shouldn't be updated, I will clarify and report later

Nah, i looked at it a little more, the root cause of the problem is that the

stage.opensuse.org::opensuse-full-with-factory-dvd5  rsync module

does not contain the mentioned file:
openSUSE-Leap-15.3-DVD-x86_64-Current.iso  neither in the LEAP nor in
openSUSE-current library

so if a mirror syncs from that module it won't have that specific iso....

Please fix that and everything will be fine.

Thank you for your help in advance! :)

By the way the download links are working - but only those 5-6 mirrors I
mentioned before and have the specific iso file will handle the requests

  • and the "pick mirror" option too.
