Description

Dear OpenSUSE admins,

our mirror ftp.halifax.rwth-aachen.de seems to be missing some files
(see below). Since that part of our server is synchronized on your end
(using rsync write access), there's little I can do about that. Could
you investigate?

Thanks,
Carsten

Subject: problem with opensuse update mirror

Dear Administrators of the halifax mirror,

i've been using your opensuse mirror and i'have seen today, that the
update directory (
http://ftp.halifax.rwth-aachen.de/opensuse/update/leap/15.0/oss/x86_64/)
is totally empty on your system.

Please look after this situtation.

Thank you for work.

Best Regards,

Ralf Kölmel

I do not know which files should be there, as I do not run the OpenSUSE
project. That's why I asked you to investigate.

To me .../oss/x86_64/ sounds like something that should be on our
mirror, and if a user asks us why it is missing that's enough reason to
ping you. So... please investigate?

Best regards,

Carsten

I am not aware of any general issue with the mirror synch, it would pretty odd for an issue to affect only one mirror.

Looking at http://ftp.halifax.rwth-aachen.de/opensuse/update/leap/15.0/oss/x86_64/, that directory does not exist.
The correct location is http://ftp.halifax.rwth-aachen.de/opensuse/update/leap/15.0/oss/rpms/x86_64/ and your copy looks good to me.

Hence my question - what is the problem you are seeing?

I included the original report. Let me quote:

the update directory (http://ftp.halifax.rwth-aachen.de/opensuse/update/leap/15.0/oss/x86_64/)
is totally empty on your system.

Best regards,

Hmm, I don't know the significance of that extra /rpms/ directory.
Trying to do an update from ftp.halifax.rwth-aachen.de seems to work just fine?

That extra /rpms/ directory level was added after the problems with the Leap 15.0 updates in March. Quoting https://lists.opensuse.org/opensuse-announce/2019-03/msg00000.html

Then we changed the update project layout to include a "rpms/" directory,
so every mirror refetches the RPMs and will only offer the correct RPMs.

Therefore the layout of the Leap 15.0 update repo is slightly different than the "usual" update repos, and update/leap/15.0/oss/x86_64/ is intentionally gone.

Thanks for that update Christian.
Carsten, does that work for you too?

Sure, everything sounds alright with the mirror setup then.

Thanks,
