Description

The QMP interface lacks a few commands that are only present on HMP. We can implement them in QEMU or reuse a better interface that unifies both interfaces into a single one.

At least move the screenshot HMP command to QMP.

I talked with Andreas Färber and he confirmed that there were some work related with QMP and screenshots that was rejected in QEMU. We need to reevaluate this: maybe the work will be not integrated in upstream.

Max, I hope you don't mind if I assign this to you. According to the discussion someone already tried to implement screenshot in QMP so maybe those patches just need some polishing.

do we know which mail thread in qemu-devel mailing list are discussed the patches that be rejected? search on google use "screendump qmp" have many results there, but I'm not sure which one we are talking about. Although I should go through all of them, but if we know the exactly one which we need, I can save my time :-)

just a note that copied from Andreas's mail:

It looks to me as if there is a "screendump" QMP command in upstream.
I had talked about remembering that there was one implementation that
BASE64-encoded the image to transmit it via QMP; the current
"screendump" QMP command seems to simply take a filename as argument.
