Description

on our other tests, we check the grub menu with livecdreboot

https://openqa.suse.de/tests/160365/modules/livecdreboot/steps/6/src

This is important for testing boot_to_snapshot - we need to find a way to do the same on s390x

I think this is related and part of current tests failing: https://openqa.suse.de/tests/181148/modules/livecdreboot/steps/3

it's not that easy to check grub on s390 and i don't think it's that urgent

since livecdreboot is kind of deprecated, and due to needed effort to implement this on s390, I think we can close this for now

  • Subject changed from s390x - Get it to check grub as part of livecdreboot to s390x - Get it to check grub as part of grub_test

livecdreboot is not deprecated, just renamed to "installation/grub_test". What would be necessary to test this on s390x? What is the challenge? Maybe grub should be configured for serial port and grub menu can be checked there?

Well... the challenge on z/VM would be to have a proper expect_3270, which can handle grub even if it's over multiple screens in x3270
on zKVM this could be much easier... but still some kind of challenging

I'm fine to keep this open, but the priority should be very low in my opinion
