cwh is part of QA SLE functional now. By coincidence we realized that he is also an admin of progress.o.o and he gave me according roles as well so we can follow on with more ideas there. What we are currently running as an experiment is to add custom fields restricted to certain projects so reduce the number of tags in the subject line which also can partially mitigate the request for query and/or filters as we can combine filters for different fields.

Limitation of custom fields is that only the redmine instance admins can change values. We would need https://www.redmine.org/plugins/redmine_edit_custom_fields for greater flexibility there.

Maybe the tagging plugin even more meets our requirements:

I setup openSUSE VPN according to https://progress.opensuse.org/projects/opensuse-admin-wiki/wiki/VPN and a little bit of hints from asmorodskyi and dheidler.

systemctl start openvpn@opensuse-tcp does not work because of interactive question for user and password but configured over NetworkManager it works which is good enough for now. Also learned that the wifi MicroFocus_open works ok after adding my wifi card MAC address over https://guestwifi.microfocus.com/guest and connecting to either SUSE or openSUSE VPN over TCP, UDP seems to be blocked.

waiting for help from opensuse admins. Also, what I can try is to experiment with a local instance of redmine and plugins, e.g. using https://hub.docker.com/_/redmine/ I started an instance with docker run -p 3000:3000 redmine . probably should forward a local path to try out plugins.

My ssh key was added to progress.infra.opensuse.org so when connected to the openSUSE VPN I can now ssh root@progress.infra.opensuse.org and look around, e.g. read out production snapshot and test locally if upgrade and/or plugins would work.

I talked to darix and tampakrap. So my current understanding is that we would need an updated redmine instance on which we could install plugins. The VM runs SLE11SP4 which is certainly part of the challenge. The former openSUSE team and lnussel have introduced some plugins which are not necessarily compatible with a more recent redmine version so we have to be careful at least.

Maybe we should just go full steam ahead and look for different solutions after all. https://www.openproject.org/ might be a thing or gitlab :)
