Hi, this is the Mlmmj program managing the sourcedvd@opensuse.org mailing
list.

The address sourcedvd@hydra.opensuse.org has been unsubscribed from the
list because it has been bouncing for too long.

Hi Per,

IMHO this is a mailing list for users that want to request the sources of the official DVDs. This list is offered for legal reasons.

I'm not sure, but it looks to me like baloo might had an issue in the past... IMHO the list should have a list owner - it might (from my old brain dump) be still aj@suse.de who should be the owner - or any other from the current release managers of openSUSE.

Could you please check and maybe get in contact with the release managers (like Ludwig or AJ) and ask them if they want to become the new owners of this mailing list?

With kind regards,
Lars

Thanks Lars.

sourcedvd@opensuse.org currently only has one subscriber - sourcedvd@hydra.opensuse.org. It looks like the unsubscribe didn't work, it was tried twice:

Mon Aug 28 12:00:02 2017 mlmmj-maintd: sourcedvd@hydra.opensuse.org unsubscribed due to bouncing since Tue Aug 22 22:28:56 2017
Mon Aug 28 12:00:02 2017 mlmmj-process: sending mail from sourcedvd+bounces-help@opensuse.org to owner
Sun Sep 10 12:00:01 2017 mlmmj-maintd: sourcedvd@hydra.opensuse.org unsubscribed due to bouncing since Mon Sep 4 15:37:39 2017
Sun Sep 10 12:00:03 2017 mlmmj-process: sending mail from sourcedvd+bounces-help@opensuse.org to owner

sourcedvd@hydra.opensuse.org has been subscribed since Apr 26 2016.

I have just now sent a test message to "sourcedvd@hydra.opensuse.org".

Test mail didn't arrive:

sourcedvd@hydra.opensuse.org: connect to
hydra.opensuse.org[195.135.221.150]:25: Connection timed out

Ludwig, since 15 April 2016, you're set as list owner and moderator for 'sourcedvd@opensuse.org'.
Do you know why 'sourcedvd@hydra.opensuse.org' is subscribed?

Sorry, must have missed the mail. I have no idea about the setup

I have honestly no idea what should or should not be happening here. There is still only one subscriber to this list, "sourcedvd@hydra.o.o" which no longer exists, hence it was attempted unsubscribed. When that did not work, the list owner "lnussel" was notified.

So this is broken now since 2 years?
Should this really still be address after all this time?

Looks to me more like it's time to close this ticket and let this email address rest in peace forever...

writing to sourcedvd@opensuse.org is the official way to request the source: https://en.opensuse.org/Source_code

Who processes such requests?

I used to look at it every once in a while but not sure who is officially in charge.

In this case: what about finally unsubscribing sourcedvd@hydra.opensuse.org - and let instead those people subscribe (like you) who care about this?

I'm very sure that there is no sourcedvd@hydra.opensuse.org "User" somewhere, who sends out DVDs. So unsubscribing this user seems to be....fair.

If you, Ludwig, thankfully care about these requests, why can't we subscribe you (or you do it yourself via sourcedvd+subscribe@opensuse.org )?

That should solve the indirection - which are IMHO not really needed for mailing lists.

The ticket system makes sense to track work on those tasks. I wonder why there is a mailinglist inbetween. Couldn't sourcedvd@opensuse.org directly go to sourcedvd@hydra.opensuse.org?

The only reason I can think of is that multiple people may have been in charge of this, at some point, maybe?

Andreas Jaeger wrote that page originally, maybe he knows if we are still obligated to provide source code on a DVD. If this obligation remains, we could simply route sourcedvd to admin@o.o. Since 1. januar, we already had 19 mails ...

Interesting side track: Where did you get these numbers from?
If I look into the mlmmj archive, I see 6 mails from 2019 and 4 from 2020 (I did not read them, so don't know if this might be even spam).

Hello team,

I did have a quicky syncup with Lars and Andreas (Aj@).
https://etherpad.opensuse.org/p/SourceDVD-Meeting-2020-01-16

We've basically agreed on following:

The ticketing system behind mailing list will over time fade away, we'll keep it running for a while for a syncup on the old backlog.
Meanwhile me and preferably few other volunteers will subscribe to the mailing list.

I'll do my homework on the GDPR aspect of having the mailing list as part of request path for a shipping Source DVD.
Mailing list has an archive, which might contain shipping addresses of individuals.

Thank you very much for co-operation

I'm closing this ticket here, based on the results of the meeting above. Feel free to reopen (via email reply or directly), if you feel we missed something.

Regards,
Lars
