Description

To resolve EFI boot menu display issue during sle-micro 6.x installation, I’m requesting to upgrade machine(scooter-sp.qe.nue2.suse.org) BIOS from 3.0a to 3.2.
No license activated on this machine, so it has to be upgraded from usb stick by manual.
Attached the link of BIOS ROM: https://www.supermicro.org.cn/en/support/resources/downloadcenter/firmware/MBD-X10DRW-i/BIOS

Thanks,
Nan

@MMoese something you could take?

I might be in Frankencampus before the summer party, so I might have time to take a look. No promise though.

Also, have you checked if you can simply do the BIOS update using the BMC's web interface? That's what I did on the other machines I updated.

I updated the machine and it now booted into a grub-menu. @nanzhang could you please verify if your problems are now gone?

https://openqa.suse.de/tests/14554316# progressed way further than original jobs in the same scenario so I assume this was a success. Thanks @nicksinger

Actually, ipxe boot doesn't work, its dependent job run on scooter(worker: imagetester:5). Looks like it cannot get ip address while booting from pxe after bios upgraded.

@nanzhang do you have an idea why https://openqa.suse.de/tests/14554316#step/ipxe_install/1 worked then?

This should be kermit(imagetester:4), not scooter(imagetester:5). :) You can see the parallel job (https://openqa.suse.de/tests/14554317) on scooter run failed.

Apparently the update reset all settings in the BIOS and I had to enable the EFI oprom for LAN boot. I also adjusted the default boot order to always boot from network by default. The restarted job looks good: https://openqa.suse.de/tests/14573729#step/ipxe_install/1

@nanzhang can you confirm that the machine if now fully functional?
