The "fix" is to replace http://forums.opensuse.org/hardware/... with http://forums.opensuse.org/showthread.php/... - but my guess is that we lost some "speaking" URLs when we moved the forums from Provo to Nuremberg (and might want to setup a rewrite rule or redirect).

Malcolm, do you or another forum admin remember some details about the speaking URLs like /hardware/ and if they were intentionally removed or accidently lost (maybe during the move)?
(Bonus question: do you have a list of speaking URLs we lost?)

It seems odd that such redirects should have been implemented in apache? I don't remember looking at the apache config from Provo though.
Otoh, if they were done in vBulletin, they should have been migrated. I still have the original database dump, maybe I'll have a look.

Looking at the database (pre-migration), I count 965 links to http://forums.opensuse.org/hardware/... then I took a more generic look and found the below.
http://forums.opensuse.org/nnnnnnnn/...
I have only tried a few of them, maybe 4-5, all gave me 404s.

Those are category names, I guess we could set up redirects with those names. The best way to find all of them would probably be parsing the access_log files from the old forums and checking what people were trying to access
