Description
Hello,
Several people report problems with the Update repository with updates from
SUSE Linux Enterprise (URL: http://download.opensuse.org/update/leap/
$releasever/sle/).

Waiting for answer for up to 45 minutes. After some time it looked as solved,
but now I am hanging again:

Did you walk through the forums thread?
Did you try do do a zypper ref on a 15.3 system?
It still hangs on that repo. What more to do to prove that?

I tried again and after some time (that repo is always slow) it now refreshes.
But the fact is that it di not function, then functioned for some period, then
again didn't. and now it does again. I hope someone can look into logs there
to find out what happens.

/var/log/zypper.log or related fragment from it is usually helpful to troubleshoot such problems.
My guess is that that repo is updated too often, is infrastructure couldn't keep up with that, so it cannot properly redirect to mirrors, but the log should shine some light on it.

I am evaluating (almost) complete switch from MirrorBrain to MirrorCache today (redirection backend behind download.opensuse.org), so it may work better (or worse).
Let me know if you see any difference.

That makes 27 seconds. As said, not the problems as experienced yesterday, but
way longer then the other ones (OSS, OSS Update, non-OSS, non-OSS Update,
Packman).
I assume that is the same as reported in the problem pointed to above. I can
confirm, the SLE repo is slow from the moement I started using it (moving to
15.3).

Well update repo is the only one which changes (often!), so you need to download ~75Mb file every time it changes.
Just curious - how much time it takes for you wget file *-primary.xml.gz from http://download.opensuse.org/update/leap/15.3/sle/repodata/ ?
I am giving exact file name below, but I am afraid it will change again soon:

One of problem is that it changes too often, e.g. today it changed like 5 times already. So infrastructure may need special tricks to make sure that all the mirrors are keeping up.
And when all users try to download it from the main server - the speed will be mediocre.
I will try to confirm if it is expected to change that often.

Yes you did all correct, this confirms that the download speed was more or less good. I am closing it as duplicate of https://progress.opensuse.org/issues/108656 , which is also marked as resolved. Please write here or open new ticket if you still see any problem with 15.3 update repos.
