2017-06-04 #opensuse-admin

[20:00:09] <cboltz> meeting time! ;-)
[20:00:21] <Ada_Lovelace> All people available?
[20:01:43] <Ada_Lovelace> Should we wait for Lars?
[20:03:10] <cboltz> Hi Per!
[20:03:38] <pjessen> Hoi Christian
[20:04:13] <pjessen> Just finished dinner, anybody else here yet?
[20:04:28] <Ada_Lovelace> Lars is missing at the moment.
[20:05:16] <cboltz> I'm afraid the public holiday means some people (not only Lars) will be missing today
[20:05:26] <cboltz> but let's start nevertheless ;-)
[20:05:36] <Ada_Lovelace> Ok. Then let's start.
[20:07:25] <Ada_Lovelace> Have we got newbies here after the conference?
[20:07:40] <pjessen> just digging out the ticket with the checklist
[20:07:49] <cboltz> https://progress.opensuse.org/issues/19064
[20:08:19] <pjessen> tnx
[20:08:23] <Ada_Lovelace> 1) Community and questions
[20:08:50] <Ada_Lovelace> nothing?
[20:09:04] <pjessen> I guess so
[20:09:15] <Ada_Lovelace> 2) status reports
[20:09:35] <Ada_Lovelace> Who wants to begin? ;)
[20:09:42] <cboltz> I'll give a short update on the wiki
[20:10:03] <cboltz> I'm sure you've seen the call for testing
[20:10:09] <pjessen> yup
[20:10:37] <cboltz> the feedback was mostly positive (except a complaint that the login isn't as nice as it was)
[20:11:01] <cboltz> also, I noticed an issue with the GitHub extension and disabled it for now
[20:11:11] <cboltz> I'm in contact with the extension developer to get it fixed
[20:12:48] <tampakrap> sorry for the delay, I'm now here
[20:13:05] <pjessen> Hi Theo
[20:13:11] <cboltz> and that's it from the wiki, so any questions or next topic?
[20:13:11] <tampakrap> hello per
[20:13:19] * tampakrap reads backlog
[20:13:51] <tampakrap> yes regarding wiki, meanwhile I learned how the login proxy works
[20:14:01] <tampakrap> so if you want to try it once again together
[20:14:37] <cboltz> good question
[20:14:42] <darix> you see we teach tampakrap things :p
[20:14:53] <Ada_Lovelace> :Thumbs up:
[20:14:59] <cboltz> I really like the nice login, but OTOH I'd also like to avoid having more delays
[20:15:54] <Ada_Lovelace> Can you configure it, tampakrap?
[20:16:17] <tampakrap> I could try :)
[20:16:23] <Ada_Lovelace> Great!
[20:16:26] <tampakrap> but cboltz doesn't seem to want it
[20:16:35] <tampakrap> so make up your mind and ping me whenever you want
[20:16:40] <cboltz> depends on how fast you can configure it ;-)
[20:16:55] <tampakrap> depends on how fast you ping me
[20:17:11] <cboltz> so, what about today? ;-)
[20:17:20] <Ada_Lovelace> Do you have the time at the moment?
[20:17:35] <tampakrap> sure
[20:17:55] <cboltz> I'll need to do some coding on the wiki side for it (not too much), but the first step is to have the proxy in place so that I can see what exactly it provides (variable names etc.)
[20:18:14] <darix> cboltz: you could have just asked for that
[20:18:33] <Ada_Lovelace> He did...
[20:18:42] <cboltz> you know that I asked for the proxy a while ago
[20:18:56] <cboltz> and then finally decided to go ahead with something that just works
[20:19:13] <cboltz> so I'd argue it's your fault that I'm using openID now ;-)
[20:19:19] <darix> Ada_Lovelace: for the varnames
[20:19:45] <cboltz> the varnames don't help much without the proxy in place ;-)
[20:19:46] <Ada_Lovelace> for the proxy in general. That was on our topic list.
[20:20:19] <darix> cboltz: X-USERNAME,X-EMAIL,X-FIRSTNAME,X-LASTNAME,
[20:22:18] <pjessen> okay, have we covered the wiki topic?
[20:23:01] <cboltz> I think so, I can discuss all the technical details with darix and tampakrap after the meeting
[20:23:28] <Ada_Lovelace> Then pjessen: news about mailing lists?
[20:23:50] <pjessen> not much - I am waiting to get external IPs assigned to the test system to get going withj mailman
[20:24:09] <tampakrap> they are not assigned yet?
[20:24:21] <pjessen> Not as far as I can tell.
[20:24:38] <tampakrap> pff okay
[20:24:42] <Ada_Lovelace> What is the status of the ticket?
[20:24:42] <tampakrap> ping me after the meeting as well
[20:24:54] <pjessen> I did some minor changes to the archiving, nothing much worth reporting on.
[20:24:54] <tampakrap> which ticket?
[20:25:04] <Ada_Lovelace> for external IPs
[20:25:36] <pjessen> there is one open, dunno the number off hand
[20:25:41] <tampakrap> no idea, I'll check after the meeting
[20:26:11] <Ada_Lovelace> ok
[20:26:11] <cboltz> https://progress.opensuse.org/issues/18454
[20:27:04] <Ada_Lovelace> I don't have any news, too.
[20:28:09] <Ada_Lovelace> 3) Salt Stack for Icinga Checks with ZeroMQ
[20:29:38] <Ada_Lovelace> I and Lars want to do it. I planned it a little bit in the last month.
[20:30:21] <darix> moin differentreality
[20:31:23] <differentreality> hey :)
[20:31:43] <Ada_Lovelace> I found some ways how to integrate it in Salt. But I hadn't the time...
[20:32:22] <Ada_Lovelace> 4) meeting time
[20:32:49] <pjessen> I was wondering about that item
[20:33:00] <Ada_Lovelace> Christian and I had a meeting with Christian/ Max at oSC.
[20:33:15] <Ada_Lovelace> We want to have them in our meeting.
[20:33:40] <Ada_Lovelace> They said that Sunday isn't possible for them.
[20:34:17] <Ada_Lovelace> How about Tuesday in the evening?
[20:35:09] <Ada_Lovelace> That would be possible for them.
[20:35:21] <pjessen> I guess they're on anopther timezone?
[20:35:39] <cboltz> they both live in germany
[20:35:44] <Ada_Lovelace> They prefer something like 19:00 (Germany).
[20:36:16] <Ada_Lovelace> The day was their problem.
[20:36:18] <tampakrap> fine by me
[20:36:56] <pjessen> during the week between 17 and 20 is difficult for me.
[20:37:13] <Ada_Lovelace> Do you work then?
[20:37:20] <Ada_Lovelace> or family?
[20:37:38] <pjessen> Family - dinner, after school, pick up from train etc etc
[20:38:11] <pjessen> During the workday is fine though, from 8 to 17.
[20:38:30] <Ada_Lovelace> And we work/ study then...
[20:39:10] <pjessen> I work too, but I can take that time once a month.
[20:39:31] <cboltz> joining a meeting when I'm in the vineyard is a bit ;-) difficult
[20:39:52] <pjessen> ah, Christian, don't be difficult ....
[20:40:05] <tampakrap> there is no wifi on the vineyards?
[20:40:24] <pjessen> IoT on each rebe?
[20:40:45] <cboltz> the only wifi I found was from a printer in a building ~500m away
[20:41:01] <cboltz> and I didn't have the infamous black.pdf with me ;-))
[20:41:16] <pjessen> Once a month on Sunday evening works for me, I have to say.
[20:41:56] <cboltz> would tuesday 20:00 german time work for you?
[20:42:16] <cboltz> that would only be 1 hour away from what we discussed with Max and Christian, so I hope it would work for them too
[20:42:42] <pjessen> Not guaranteed, it depends on the actual day.
[20:42:45] <Ada_Lovelace> +1
[20:43:03] <Ada_Lovelace> every first Tuesday per month
[20:43:37] <pjessen> Yeah, but I don't know how that interferes with my wife's work, or my son's orchestra practice.
[20:44:20] <cboltz> is this something you can clarify within the next days, or does it change semi-randomly?
[20:44:21] <Ada_Lovelace> orchestra shoud have a hard time every week like I had it with my youth orchestra
[20:44:55] <pjessen> I have to ask, why I we considering shifting the meeting just for two people? Seems like they ought to accomodate us?
[20:45:14] <Ada_Lovelace> You can take your children to your pc with IRC :)
[20:45:25] <pjessen> it is random - orchestra every two week, my wife's work - rapid changes.
[20:45:53] <Ada_Lovelace> only every 2 weeks and not a hard day? Strange...
[20:46:42] <pjessen> It is usually fixed every two weeks, but varies a little with concerts and other performances.
[20:46:52] <cboltz> these two people work at SUSE and do quite some work on openSUSE admin stuff, so it would be really good to have them in the meeting
[20:47:31] <cboltz> so not really "just two people" ;-)
[20:47:39] <Ada_Lovelace> They aren't allowed to work on Sunday. And Max should tell us about his work, too. So we can receive a better overview about something like in the next topic.
[20:47:57] <pjessen> I wish I wans't allowed to work on SUndays.,
[20:48:23] <pjessen> But let's not get hung up up on my timing, everyone else seems to be ok
[20:48:34] <cboltz> yeah, the joy of being a community member - nobody disallows us to work 24/7 ;-)
[20:49:22] <Ada_Lovelace> So we'll take 20:00 and Per joins if possible?
[20:49:33] <cboltz> sounds good
[20:49:37] <pjessen> okay
[20:49:40] <darix> cboltz: just for you i will set up a rule in freeipa that only allows you work for certain hours a day and no weekends!
[20:50:01] <cboltz> lol
[20:50:43] <cboltz> I'll write a mail to the heroes ML about the changed meeting time - including the question if it's ok for the people who aren't here now
[20:50:54] <Ada_Lovelace> darix: You sounds like my first team lead after education. :-)
[20:51:17] <Ada_Lovelace> No work after 19:00 was the rule. All had to leave the room then...
[20:51:37] <pjessen> nostalgia
[20:51:43] <cboltz> ... and continue from the home office? *g,d&r*
[20:52:00] <Ada_Lovelace> 5) mirror status
[20:52:08] <pjessen> yeah, mirror status.
[20:52:19] <darix> so pjessen how is your mirror doing?
[20:52:37] <pjessen> mine isn't doing too well, still no ipv6
[20:52:42] <Ada_Lovelace> No. We had free time and 1 person had the phone and was allowed to work from home.
[20:53:06] <pjessen> I'm concerned about other mirror candiates not getting any replies or updates
[20:53:29] <Ada_Lovelace> That was the reason for getting Max to our meeting. :-)
[20:53:37] <darix> got to run. ttyl
[20:53:41] <pjessen> (afaik, our mirror is ready to go).
[20:54:08] <Ada_Lovelace> darix: Do you know the status at the SUSE-IT?
[20:54:55] <tampakrap> there is no progress yet, it waits for me to move scanner from inside suse to the opensuse cluster
[20:55:48] <cboltz> until this is done, I'm afraid someone at SUSE has to handle mirror requests
[20:55:49] <Ada_Lovelace> So nobody can do something with mirrors?
[20:57:28] <pjessen> it looks like a major bottleneck
[20:57:33] <tampakrap> I suppose max or martin could handle the requests as they have been doing for some time
[20:57:50] <cboltz> I'd really like to see them handled ASAP - the mirrors offer to help us, and the large delay gives them the impression that we don't care :-/
[20:58:12] <pjessen> cboltz: exactly.
[20:58:33] <Ada_Lovelace> "have been doing" shoud be "had been dooing" with the status of the last weeks. ;-)
[20:59:33] <tampakrap> sure, I'll bring the topic to the SUSE-IT team meeting on tuesday
[20:59:45] <Ada_Lovelace> Ok.Martin isn't allowed to do it any more, he told me at the oSC.
[20:59:54] <Ada_Lovelace> That's Max's task now.
[21:00:23] <pjessen> That wud be great, I have seen a few unhappy mirror candidates unable to understand why it takes weeks and weeks
[21:00:31] <Ada_Lovelace> Thanks! And I'll write the new meeting time.
[21:01:05] <cboltz> indeed, two of them even mailed me personally (because I had assigned their ticket)
[21:01:19] <cboltz> and the only thing I could do was to apologize and ask for patience :-(
[21:01:25] <pjessen> same here.
[21:02:05] <Ada_Lovelace> So we need somebody for that and the conference is over.
[21:02:34] <tampakrap> fyi: I'll be on vacation from 8 till 26 of june
[21:03:08] <Ada_Lovelace> But available on the first Tuesday of July? ;)
[21:03:46] <cboltz> I already wondered if you are ever on vacation - whenever I ask something on IRC, you are there ;-)
[21:04:09] <cboltz> so enjoy your vacation!
[21:05:13] <tampakrap> thanks!
[21:05:20] <Ada_Lovelace> Enjoy the vacation! :-)
[21:05:28] <pjessen> I guess the summary of the mirror status is "waiting for available resources" ?
[21:05:55] <cboltz> indeed :-(
[21:06:18] <pjessen> our local mirror is at least 90 days out of sync ....
[21:06:34] <Ada_Lovelace> So you know the reason for having Max in our meeting now. ;-)
[21:07:02] <pjessen> No, he needs to be out working, not sat in meetings :-)
[21:07:34] <cboltz> ideally both ;-)
[21:08:00] <cboltz> anyway - I'd say discussing more about the mirror status doesn't really help
[21:08:06] <cboltz> so - any other topic we need to discuss?
[21:08:11] <pjessen> agree.
[21:08:20] <Ada_Lovelace> So have gone through all of our topcs.
[21:08:29] <Ada_Lovelace> *topics*
[21:09:05] <Ada_Lovelace> We should be finished now.
[21:09:27] <pjessen> The next meeeting will be July 4?
[21:09:47] <tampakrap> yes
[21:10:01] <cboltz> most likely yes, if we don't get lots of objections on the ML
[21:10:29] <pjessen> okay, will wait to see how it turns out.
[21:11:03] <Ada_Lovelace> jup
[21:11:03] <pjessen> well, enjoy the summer everyone, and what is left of Pfingsten!
[21:11:24] <Ada_Lovelace> Thanks! Enjoy Pfingsten.
[21:11:38] <Ada_Lovelace> Good night.
[21:11:57] <cboltz> good night, and thanks everybody!
