I could redirect these to the forums-admin list, but surely it is just some misconfiguration somewhere?

I don't know for sure, but there is a user (forumsadmin) defined in the user list - that may be where that's coming from.
That user is set up as a forum administrator, and notifications are sent to the admins if a moderator isn't assigned to a forum - so that e-mail address was probably an alias that forwarded to the current staff at any given time.
Changing that user's e-mail address to the forums-admin list address will probably resolve it.

That sounds like a good idea - can you do that update? fwiw, I have 122 of those bounces since November last year.

Tried to do it, but the software said the user is protected from changes:
Sorry, this user is protected from being altered in the config.php file by the $config['SpecialUsers']['undeletableusers'] variable.
If you want to make the user alterable, then just go into admincp -> "users" -> "search for new users" and search for the username 'forumsadmin', you can make the change and then add the user back into that configuration value so it can't be changed again.

Thanks Jim - I made the change in the database directly, table 'vb_user'. I've also updated the mailing list to permit postings from 'admin-auto@opensuse.org'. I'll leave this open for a bit, to see if it works.

Hi
I now get two emails from admin-auto at o.o, one direct to my normal email and one via forums-admin at o.o.

I see that as well, we probably want to tweak the settings so we're not receiving them directly any more.
