Description

Hi.

I would like to start getting traffic to our mirror. Here is requested
information:

  • email address and the name of the administrator for contact

Ariel Sabiguero Yawelak
asabigue@fder.edu.uy

HTTP URL on your mirror (e.g. http://yourmirror.example.com/pub/opensuse/)
http://espejito.fder.edu.uy/opensuse/

is your web server large-file capable? (to handle images larger than 2 GB in size)
yes (running openSuSE 42.3)

read-only rsync access for our scanner -- for scanning which we perform to keep our download redirector database up-to-date. It is done from 195.135.220.0/22. (Test via rsync -v yourmirror.example.com::)
tested with: rsync -rav espejito.fder.edu.uy::opensuse opensuse

FTP URL, if you run an FTP server. Can serve as fallback protocol for scanning, if rsync is not available. Otherwise, FTP is not used by openSUSE.
No FTP server configured

a name and URL of the operator or sponsor of the mirror, for display in the mirror list
Facultad de Derecho - Universidad de la República

someone from your team is subscribed to mirror@opensuse.org - see Staying informed section below.
I am already suscribed (asabigue@fing.edu.uy)

IPs and DNS entries of your mirror to be added to our staging server. Our staging server limits access to the current modules just to a small list of allowed hosts, so your server will not get hit by limitations that are in place for the public rsync.opensuse.org server.
hostname: espejito.fder.edu.uy
IP: 190.64.49.124

Bandwidth availability
Currently 1Gbps download/500Mbps upload.
We are connected to RAU2, with additional 1Gbps symetric connection. We plan to offer the content there too.

Filesystem space
3TB available (after rsync finished)

Best regards

ariel

Hi Ariel

Thanks for becomming an openSUSE mirror!

I added your machine to our redirector database (mirrorbrain) now and started a first scan.
Please check, if your mirror can fetch content via rsync from stage.opensuse.org instead of rsync.opensuse.org - the first one is our unrestricted staging mirror for mirror servers.

With kind regards,
Lars

Thanks for your reply.

I moved the rsync source to stage.opensuse.org. It accepted our
connection and we are retrieving something.

It seems that some traffic is already being redirected. Good thing!

Would you like to suggest any change to our setup? directories? other?

best regards

ariel

I have an extra-question.... what to mirror?

I mirrored opensuse-full from rsync.opensuse.org and I got 3,3TB of
files. After your e-mail, I moved the source to stage.opensuse.org,
which deleted REALLY a big number of files, and ended up with 993GB.

What was the difference?

Please, let me know different mirror options and their respective sizes.
I was willing to share 3TB, so, is there a better thing to mirror than
opensuse-full and is no bigger than 3TB?

regards

ariel

PS: I appreciate your patience. openSuSE mirroring is far more complex
than libreoffice

I am rsyncing with the following line:

withlock LOCK-rsync-opensuse sudo -u mirror rsync -4rlpt
stage.opensuse.org::opensuse-full opensuse --delete-after
--delete-excluded  --timeout=1800 -hi

PLEASE advice.

Just for refrence, opensuse-full is completely rsync-ed:

espejito:~ # rsync_opensuse
This is stage.opensuse.org, restricted rsync server of openSUSE.org.

If you run a public mirror, please get in contact so we can give you
access to the this rsync server.

You'll find conditions for access and further information at
http://en.opensuse.org/Mirror_Infrastructure

Thanks!
admin@opensuse.org

espejito:~ #

please let me know how to mirror tumbleweed back again.

yes (running openSuSE 42.3)

read-only rsync access for our scanner -- for scanning which we perform to keep our download redirector database up-to-date.

Currently 1Gbps download/500Mbps upload.

3TB available (after rsync finished)

Just for refrence, opensuse-full is completely rsync-ed:

espejito:~ # rsync_opensuse
This is stage.opensuse.org, restricted rsync server of openSUSE.org.

If you run a public mirror, please get in contact so we can give you
access to the this rsync server.

You'll find conditions for access and further information at
http://en.opensuse.org/Mirror_Infrastructure

please let me know how to mirror tumbleweed back again.

Sorry for the long answering time - looks like at least I have overseen your query.

For tumbleweed, you probably need to switch to another rsync module like "opensuse-full-really-everything" or (depending on how much space you have) "opensuse-full-really-everything-including-repositories".

Just pick one out of the list of "rsync -v rsync://stage.opensuse.org/". The "hoststuff" modules change from time to time, containing just the most requested pages. The others are hopefully self explanatory. In case of doubt, just do a test sync and choose the one that fits on your disks. All listed modules are available for you.

With kind regards,
Lars
