Description
Hello,
I am new to contributing to OpenSUSE, so please do let me know if there is anything I am missing.
As a result of the recent Public Cloud Team kickoff meeting, I would like to request a couple of resources to be used
for Public Cloud Team activities--first of which will be creating an Azure Community Gallery for sharing Tumbleweed
images which will be produced.
- cloud@lists.opensuse.org - a public mailing list for team activities
- cloud-admin@opensuse.org - a private alias to be used for administrative activities (like the above Azure resources)
For the alias, please grant Neal (ngompa@opensuse.org), Dom (dominik@wombacher.cc), and Lubos (lubos.kocman@suse.com)
and myself as administrators.
Similarly, please make at least Neal, Dom, and Lubos able to manage and moderate the list.
Please find the notes to the kickoff, as well as the Team wiki page below:
- https://en.opensuse.org/openSUSE:PublicCloud_team
Best,
Neil Hanlon

Hi,
cloud-admin@lists.opensuse.org is available, but cloud@lists.opensuse.org already exists - it has the description "Discussions about openSUSE in the cloud" and is an inactive list with 81 members, but no specific owners or moderators. Reading the archive, it seems mostly old OpenStack related discussions, not related to public cloud. The last email was in 2020, so it might no longer be needed, but we don't have a process to "recycle" the address whilst still preserving the archive.
Do you want to use a different address or reach out to cloud@ members about whether the list can be revived publicly for the new public cloud purpose?
Cheers,
Georg
Edit: corrected hidden to inactive, I missed it when checking the public index initially.

Hi Georg,
Thank you for the prompt response. I spoke with the rest of the group and the consensus was that we will reach out to
the group to see about reviving the list, given it's been ~ 4 years since the last post.
Should we/I reach out to the list and ask about it? I also noticed that the archives are already public [1], so perhaps
it is enough to just post a message and wait a week or so for any responses? Please let me know what the best practices
might be (I know you mentioned there's no official process to recycle, so perhaps there is not any).

Hi Neil,
if you or someone from your group could reach out to them, that would be nice, then I don't have to relay your intentions. I think easiest would indeed be subscribing to cloud@ and sending an email to the list. If there's no preference by existing users or there's no response in 1-2 weeks, I propose to just flush all existing members and then to re-use it, continuing the existing archive.

I'm fine with reusing the existing mailing list. I've already subscribed to it too.

Hi,
I reached out to the list a couple weeks back [1] and received some
private feedback, but nothing negative. As such, I mailed today to
confirm the plan.
Could you please go ahead and reset the membership of the
cloud@lists.opensuse.org list and make Neal, Dom, and Lubos owners of
the list?

I would suggest removing existing subscribers from cloud@, and consider updating the list descriptions.

Confirmed we have been able to access these and manage them. Thank you!
We've unsubscribed the current members, as planned.
Thank you again for your assistance with this matter. I think we can
close this ticket.
Best,
Neil
