Request for old forums backup (vBulletin)
Added by hendersj 8 months ago.
Updated 8 months ago.
Description
Looking to pull some old message history that didn't translate well in the
move to Discourse (URLs didn't get updated in messages, so references are
missing) as well as deleted messages (which I believe were maintained in
the vBulletin database but not included in the migration).
I've got a vBulletin sandbox VM image and Docker container that I can use
to restore the backup to so I can answer some questions that have come up
in admin/moderator discussions. Just need the data so I can do the
research.
Thanks

Hi,
there is no vBulletin backup, but the "production" database still exists on our MariaDB cluster. In fact, there are two VB databases - "webforums" and "webforums2".
As an interesting side effect of your request, I notice our MySQL backups to be incomplete, some databases are not getting dumped, including the webforums ones - I created https://progress.opensuse.org/issues/160086 for this.
I will repair this, and then there will also be a dump of webforums{,2} for your consumption.

Gave you read access to these files on mybackup.infra.opensuse.org:
-rw-r-----+ 1 root root 350115084 May 9 06:11 /backup/20240509/webforums2.sql.xz
-rw-r-----+ 1 root root 484455348 May 9 05:56 /backup/20240509/webforums.sql.xz
Note the directory is not world readable.
Let me know if this helps.
Thanks - I've grabbed the files. Since they're just MySQL backups (I seem
to recall that vBulletin has its own backup tool built-in), can you let me
know what commands you used to create these backups

Closing then. But if anything else, do let me know.
