Description

Since the forums.opensuse.org site revamping over the weekend, loading any page on $SUBJECT site using User agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:91.0) Gecko/20100101 SeaMonkey/2.53.17.1 makes head of page read in mousetype on ugly yellow background:

Unfortunately, your browser is unsupported. Please switch to a supported browser to view rich content, log in and reply.

I have no interest in "rich content". My primary forums interest is in helping other openSUSE users solve their installation, configuration, booting, and graphics problems.

Nowhere visible on forum pages is there offered an opportunity to login, and neither is current existing login inherited from being logged in on bugzilla.opensuse.org or openSUSE's wiki.

"Switching" to a "supported" browser here will not happen in the foreseeable future, if ever. Forum email notifications URLs are only ever selected for opening in SeaMonkey Mail, which opens them in SeaMonkey browser. Thus, as a practical matter, my considerable activity helping other openSUSE users via the forums is effectively halted until, and unless, this inability to login without using Firefox or Chromium gets fixed.

We don't exactly have much power here, Discourse was updated to 3.1, in order to keep up with security updates. Feel free to make yourself heard with the upstream. You can still partake in the forums by replying with emails instead

My reply originally intended as response to comment #2 is at:
https://lists.opensuse.org/archives/list/project@lists.opensuse.org/thread/MVSQBS2LXQG6Y4ZNQJCHASJLFPD4CUQJ/

Admins may need to open forum threads in any of the locked out browsers themselves. I see no way to interface with forum threads via email.

Just because it's a tough problem to solve is not justification to consider this issue closed.

The issue was closed because we have functionally no way to do anything about this ourselves, the thing you are asking for is only something that the upstream could address. When you manage to get the upstream to change how they approach this, feel free to let us know, we can apply patches or even update to a newer version of Discourse in order to make sure you can use the forums

As I spelled out in the project list post, I am not the Discourse software user. I am a website user. I don't know or use the Discourse software or participate in maintaining the openSUSE Forums website that uses it. That's its admins' function. The admins ostensibly can speak the language of that software in dialog with upstream. The most a website user can do is limited. He is a third party that has no experience with whatever limitations or features come with the software the admins selected and installed, other than as hearsay. Odds are, if I were to try to report this wherever it is that might be appropriate, I'd be faced with the very same bad-old-days' "best viewed with" anti-A11Y impediment.

Closing an issue because you think you can't do anything about it doesn't resolve anything. The issue remains open, "fixable" or not.
