Description

Hello team,

I have been tasked with one analytics project related to OpenSUSE.
What I am after is creating a report in Power BI with Community adoption metrics for the distributions/products/ available on Get openSUSEhttps://get.opensuse.org/ .
I understood that this data is stored in the Influx DB and therefore I am reaching out to you.
Would you please share with me what are the next step for me to request login and read rights to the database?

Thank you.

Regards,
Kalina

Hi Kalina,

I'm not sure the metrics are maintained, if I check the InfluxDB server on metrics.infra.opensuse.org, the newest release database I can find is for Leap 15.2:

> SHOW DATABASES
name: databases
name
----
_internal
openSUSE:Leap:42.1
openSUSE:Leap:13.2
openSUSE:Leap:13.1
openSUSE:13.1
openSUSE:13.2
openSUSE:Leap:42.2
openSUSE:Leap:42.3
openSUSE:Leap:15.0
telegraf
openSUSE:Factory
osrt_telegraf
openSUSE:Leap:15.1
openSUSE:Leap:15.2
osrt_access

And the last entry for openSUSE:Factory seems to be from 2021:

> USE "openSUSE:Factory"
Using database openSUSE:Factory
> SELECT * FROM release_snapshot ORDER BY time DESC LIMIT 1
name: release_snapshot
time binary_count binary_unique_count
---- ------------ -------------------

Maybe @lkocman has more insight into this?

Kalina, if you would like access regardless, we can set you up with access to the openSUSE Heroes VPN in order for you to reach the API and shell (there does not seem to be a public web frontend or API - @someone else checking this ticket: correct me if I'm wrong).

For this, please provide us with a public GPG key, and, if possible, register an IDP account on https://idp-portal.suse.com/ and use it to log in to this ticketing system (https://progress.opensuse.org/) for easier communication in case of issues.

Cheers,
Georg

That's strange - metrics.opensuse.org displays up-to-date information that includes 15.4, therefore I'd expect that it is stored somewhere ;-)

After submitting the previous comment, I noticed that there's also some data for 15.5, but the numbers are still quite small and therefore easy to overlook.

BTW: To see the very latest data, you might want to switch to the "Aggregation Frequency" to "day" instead of "month" (which is the default).

Hi,

as discussed in the Teams calls earlier, the data is there, but in the "osrt_access" database.
Let me know if you want access to the openSUSE Heroes VPN in order to reach the InfluxDB API, and if so, please provide a public GPG key to proceed.

Best,
Georg

Hi,

I maintain the script which ingests the data to the mentioned DB. Please reach out to me on Slack if you have questions to the data structure.
