Description

Motivation

Since some weeks the machine power8 is not usable anymore for openqa.opensuse.org, see https://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1202275
Having proper testing of ppc64le for Tumbleweed/Factory is quite important for SLE development and also ALP development+testing relies on open development in build.opensuse.org+openqa.opensuse.org. So what can we do to mitigate that situation?
Mid-term a move to power9 is the right approach but we have power8 machines available and not enough expertise to be able to recover the existing machine as well as setup other power8 machines to be used for that purpose. Can we find some help for that? There are already plans for years but the approach taken so far relying on an HMC+PowerVM did not scale well. Did someone find a solution maybe from BuildOPS to run qemu-kvm on Power9?
