Description

The -lxqt channel on irc.libera.net is basically dead, and always has
been. There's not really any good reason to keep it around, and the
associated bridge to go along with it. The Matrix channel serves the
purpose quite well, given the actual low volume of discussion happening.

  • Category set to IRC and Matrix
  • Private changed from Yes to No

It can be unregistered, but due to how IRC works, not deleted (as long as people are joined to a channel, it exists). I think it makes sense to leave the name registered. One could update the topic informing users about the new home over on Matrix.

But I wonder, what's the harm in keeping the option for users to join over IRC open? Spam?

Makes sense, I'll do that, as I don't actually have CHANOP permissions for -lxqt can this be done, and perhaps set the channel +m in Chanserv?

Spam, the requirement of keeping a bridge in place to #lxqt:opensuse.org, users showing up and expecting help in a channel that isn't being monitored, etc.

How's that an issue? Do you pay us to run the bridge? ;-)

No, but it's a service/resource that requires maintenance, that is providing zero value, for this specific communication channel. I'm the one that asked for the IRC and Matrix channels to be setup in the first place, back in https://progress.opensuse.org/issues/115958

It turns out that IRC is basically unused, for this project within openSUSE, and I don't see any good reason to be tying up any resources at all, for things I requested to be setup, when they're not being used, after a certain point.

It's of course the infrastructures team's call, of course.
