Description

Hello,

This morning zypper has been unable to check for updates due to timeouts, and
the URL does not load in Firefox, either, so I looked at status.opensuse.org
in the hopes of finding more information. However, it seems that site has
some problems. I assume the issue with download.opensuse.org is already known
and being worked on, so I'm just going to focus on the issues with the status
site:

  • The top of the page shows "Some Systems are experiencing issues". OK.

  • All individual services, however, are "Operational".

  • Hovering over the "Operational" label apparently shows the last time it was
updated, which for download.opensuse.org was supposedly on 2021-08-23 (see
first screenshot). Sporadically checking others also shows supposedly
    outdated "Operational" labels.

  • Despite both websites being functional (for me), the latency graphs for
software.opensuse.org and www.opensuse.org suddenly went to zero starting
sometime between 9:00 and 10:00 (see second screenshot). Also, "Last Hour"
    goes back three hours.

So from my perspective status.opensuse.org has not been particularly helpful.
Is any of this already known? Should I open a bug for this (I couldn't find
anything on bugzilla.opensuse.org)?

Greetings

Marc Joliet

Hi,

sorry, I think this is a misinterpretation of how status.opensuse.org works. The graphs are not representing latency or real uptime. The page is fed by manually entered status updates, which the software (https://github.com/CachetHQ/Cachet) then uses to print some graphs along with the service status. If no status updates are entered into the page, the data does not change - except for the timeline, because time goes on.

Does that explain your observations?

Some more information about our monitoring systems can be found on https://monitor.opensuse.org/.

Cheers,
Georg

Hi,

(Trying to answer via Email in case it works, to avoid creating yet another
bug tracker account.)

thanks for the reply. Yeah, I thought of that possibility afterwards, that
makes perfect sense! I had no idea https://monitor.opensuse.org/ existed.
Maybe you could reference it directly in the description at the top of
status.opensuse.org?

Greetings,
Marc Joliet

  • Subject changed from download.opensuse.org looks down, but status page says "operational" to Link monitor.o.o on status.o.o (was: download.opensuse.org looks down, but status page says "operational")
  • Status changed from Feedback to Workable

Your email reply worked fine - surprisingly well actually, some other peoples email responses get transformed into individual new tickets. Somehow your mail client does a good job and your reply was correctly detected to be a comment to your original ticket. :-)

Linking monitor.opensuse.org sounds like a good idea, I'll leave this open for someone to pick up.

Cheers,
Georg
