if I compare the autoinst-log.txt for the select_serial_terminal flow between:

I did not found obvious differences in passed parameter (see two attached log extracts), except timeout value. But a trial adding TIMEOUT_SCALE=3 do not help: https://openqa.opensuse.org/tests/1398150#step/zypper_ref/2

I do not know how to continue investigation from there.
