for sle15 i think we should check displaymanager, for example "if (check_screen 'displaymanager', 90) {"
and for sle12 we can check login console.

Yes, this one is supposed to be fixed in the aforementioned recent fix. This
can be verified after the fix released on SLE-12-SP2 maintenance update:

With the fix, the test is expected to verify the system switches to a text
console smoothly instead of lingering with a booting messages.

Since the migration happens between 15 code streams, the gdm should be
able to start (because /var/lib is not read-only since SLE-15). So for this
case, I think the chance to remove the soft failure is to make openQA actually
verify a successful log-in of gdm.

we can look into the following gdm changelog (rpm -q --changelog gdm) in the updated SLE-12-SP2
before the migration (or after the snapshot boot).

• Add gdm-failed-gracefully-booting-from-snapshot.patch: When file system is read-only, gdm exits immediately (bsc#980337).

So we need wait maintain team to update it.
