Description

Dear admin,

I wrote a message to the openSUSE forum
(https://forums.opensuse.org/showthread.php/538009-rsync-opensuse-org-and-download-opensuse-org-not-the-same-content) and was told to look to your
mailing list mirror@opensuse.org for an answer.

Or could you tell me directly if it is correct that there seem to be a difference in the content on download.opensuse.org and rsync.opensuse.org (see
e.g. the latest package for MozillaFirefox in the mozilla repository which is not the same)?

If you are not able to answer my question, I would like to ask you to add me to your mailing list. Thanks a lot.

Best regards
Markus

Dear all,

to reduce network traffic, I use a local mirror of all the content of download.opensuse.org to install and update my Linux computers. As I cannot
setup a public mirror, I used rsync.opensuse.org to mirror all content from rsync.opensuse.org:pensuse-full-really-everything-including-repositories
(see https://mirrors.opensuse.org/list/rs...-rsync.o.o.txt) to my local file space and to keep it up to date.

But now, I've noticed that the content on download.opensuse.org and on rsync.opensuse.org is obviously not the same.

For example, when I look at the mozilla repository, the latest version of MozillaFirefox for OpenSUSE Leap 15.1 on rsync.opensuse.org is 68.1.0
(/opensuse/repositories/mozilla/openSUSE_Leap_15.1/x86_64/MozillaFirefox-68.1.0-lp151.1.1.x86_64.rpm) and on download.opensuse.org, it's 70.0
(http://download.opensuse.org/reposit...4.1.x86_64.rpm).

Is there a reason, why download.opensuse.org and rsync.opensuse.org do defer? Or is it a bug/problem in its synchronization process?

Best regards
Markus

Hi Markus

yes, that is currently possible. We have had an issue with pushing repositories for a while. It should be fixed as of yesterday, but it'll take a while getting up to date.

If you are not able to answer my question, I would like to ask you to add me to your mailing list. Thanks a lot.

Go ahead and subscribe yourself, it is an open list.

Hi per,

I dont't want to annoy you, but I would like to report that there seems to be still a problem with the synchronization between download.opensuse.org
and rsync.opensuse.org. Is that problem known?

For example, the latest package for Mozillar Firefox...

on rsync.opensuse.org:
rsync://rsync.opensuse.org:/opensuse/repositories/mozilla/openSUSE_Leap_15.1/x86_64/MozillaFirefox-68.1.0-lp151.1.1.x86_64.rpm

on downlod.opensuse.org:
http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/mozilla/openSUSE_Leap_15.1/x86_64/MozillaFirefox-70.0.1-lp151.1.1.x86_64.rpm

I just want to let you know, that there seems to be still a mismatch between both systems. Do you maybe know when that problem may be solved? For me
as an admin of about 50 Linux machines, it would be great so have a local copy of several repositories to speed up my system at some points.

Thanks for any help.

By the way, you all do a great job on openSUSE/Suse. Thanks a lot!

Best regards
Markus

Hi Markus

don't worry, friendly and intelligent questions are always welcome :-)
Yes, I think we still have a problem with rsync.o.o - the filesystem was full last week, some was cleared up, but I don't actually know the current status. As you are talking about repositories/, I'm wondering if I might need to do a full resync.

Hmm, it looks like rsync.o.o is full again. I'll see what I can do.

JFYI: rsyn.opensuse.org currently excludes old, unmaintained SUSE repos (like 12.x or 13.x - or even Leap 42.x) to have a bit more space for the current ones.

The push is still running, but I think it should not take long to get it finally in sync now.

What's the latest on rsync.o.o ? I guess we have some new hardware?

Hi there - and a Happy and Healthy 2022!

I'm currently closing old tickets which did not see much change.
If the main concern still exists and should be handled, please re-open by just replying to this Email.

Thanks in advance,
Lars
