it seems like the 2nd disk is not present on s390x:

As I'm not an s390x I have a question: is it possible to "plug and play" a 2nd disk on s390 like on x64 or must the disk be activated before it can be used?

it is possible with dasd_configure to add a second disk during runtime - I will give you the details after lunch
but the guest needs to have a second disk configured in beforehand - I am not sure atm if this guest have it - will check
