Description

Hello,

I'm trying to use /pub/opensuse/repositories but it seems outdated since
a long time and also in a broken/inconsistent state which makes this
mirror unusable. See

http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/home%3A/rudi_m%3A/musthave/openSUSE_Leap_42.2/repodata/
vs.
http://ftp.gwdg.de/pub/opensuse/repositories/home%3A/rudi_m%3A/musthave/openSUSE_Leap_42.2/repodata/

http://ftp.gwdg.de/ says:

Project Categories Directory Source Update every
OpenSuse Repositories repo /pub/opensuse/repositories stage.opensuse.org push

Does "push" mean it's pushed by openSUSE? What could be done to make this mirror usable?

cu,
Rudi

I actively started a push to the gwdg mirror now. Let's wait for the outcome...

Hi Rudi

Can you please change something in your home project to get the repositories rebuild and republished?

Looks like we push actively to this mirror from OBS, but one of the last pushes might failed - and therefor the mirror stays with outdated data unless something triggers a new push...

If even this does not help, please ping here again, so I can try to figure out if something is broken on one or the other side of the mirrors...

With kind regards,
Lars

Hm, I could do this, but actually this is not what I want. Wouldn't this increase my package release numbers and cause all my machines updating/re-installing these packages for no reason!?

BTW thanks for working on this ticket. I can imagine that syncing all the user repos to the mirrors is somehow invasive and problematic. But I would really appreciate if I could get my binaries via rsync somehow.

Anyways, now I did "osc rebuild" in "home:rudi_m:musthave/dateutils". Seems that it "does something" (state was "outdated" for a while) but it did not really rebuilt the package.

ok - did not solve the problem, sorry.
But after the scan, I see at least 3 other mirrors with the correct data ( http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/home%3A/rudi_m%3A/musthave/openSUSE_Leap_42.2/repodata/174caa66c6a933351947b3d82f6bdd74a8e5646af748f070bccf0cbba7aa1b0d-filelists.xml.gz.mirrorlist ), so I doubt that gwdg is currently outdated...

I will try to trigger a push of the complete(!) /repositories/ directory to the gwdg mirror, but this might take a while until we will notice if this works out. I expect a first, hopefully positive result end of next week...

So far the only thing I can recommend is to use download.opensuse.org and the redirector there to get the newest files.

Looks like the success of the buildservice leads to a stressed infrastructure: the master mirror has not enough bandwidth any longer to even push the newest content to all mirrors. Not even thinking about the mirrors that pull only... I will try to get something done in this area - but other than a bigger network and faster SAN I see currently no way to get out of this problem.

Thanks for your patience!

CU,
Lars

...and probably will stay outdated until the mirror admins there allow to sync the current content again, sorry.

The only thing I can do currently is to inform you that ftp.gwdg.de is not up to date and contains outdated content. The repo is disabled in mirrorbrain already, that's why you will not see it in the mirror list any more.

As I'm on travel and vacation in August, I can just work again on this topic in September. But as we have a valid solution right now (using other mirrors), I wil close the ticket here for the moment as it just hits the iceberg of the issue with gwdg.

Regards,
Lars

Thanks for pointing me to the other mirrors. AFAIR some months ago I couldn't find any other rsync mirrors for repositories/home:

Maybe it would be worth to mark complete/incomplete mirrors of "repositories/" here on that site:
http://mirrors.opensuse.org/

Regarding gwdg, I'd say they should rather remove/unpublish the repositories/ directory rather than serving it outdated.

Wish you a nice vacation!
